Beginning Fall 2011, HCS integrated the three separate degree programs of Crop Science, Fruit Science and Environmental Horticultural Science into a combined major, Agricultural and Environmental Plant Sciences.

The new major allows you to specialize in one of seven concentrations: Crop Science, Fruit Science, Greenhouse and Nursery Plant Production, Plant Protection Sciences, Public Horticulture, Sustainable Landscape Management and Design, or Turfgrass and Sports Field Management.

Each concentration within the new Agricultural and Environmental Plant Sciences major offers its own course of study at the introductory, intermediate and advanced level. There are opportunities for cross training and multi-disciplinary learning, as students in one concentration are able to take courses of interest that happen to fall into another concentration.

Students currently enrolled in the existing Crop Science, Fruit Science and Environmental Horticultural Science bachelor's degree programs are being allowed to complete the degrees in progress in their declared majors, but have the opportunity to change to the Agricultural and Environmental Plant Sciences major. However, juniors and seniors, in general, should not consider a major change unless their current coursework dovetails considerably with the new curriculum.
